Kreayshawn, mackin on yo hoes, pumpin swagger out her ovaries...

Kreayshawn first appeared smoking a blunt as a cameo while Lil B danced topless to a Souljaboy song. Then a month ago we saw her second show ever, where she rapped about burning a house down like she was Left Eye and super-lazily dancing in platform boots with a nose ring connected to her ear, and good and weird felt like the same thing. “Gucci Gucci” is one of her new tracks, a not-reprehensible beat-blend of Drumma Boy and dub wobble, with an ingenious inversion of a traditional rap hook. The video is theoretically pretty normal, but watching Kreayshawn rap and care more about inventing gang signs than dancing, supported silently by her possible sister/possible Parent Trap digi-clone, is like trying to make sense of Hello Kitty on Dextromethorphan. Multiple Odd Future cameos lend a little credibility, but just one look at Kreayshawn’s pink-balloon mouse headband makes it clear she’s inventing this space for herself. João Canziani. This picture was taken in Los Angeles behind the Henry Fonda Theater, April 2004, just moments prior to Madlib and J Dilla's first live performance together as Jaylib.

J Dilla and Madlib had never been photographed together or appeared as a group in public. In the years that followed, this changed drastically - after Dilla's move to Los Angeles, the two worked together, communicated through hip-hop beat tapes, and toured together as JAYLIB. Madlib's profile rose with his MF DOOM-collab Madvillain. J Dilla, though dealing with a serious illness, continued crafting material for artists such as Common and Busta Rhymes while working on a wealth of solo material. Dilla's final albums - Donuts and The Shining - along with the re-issue of Ruff Draft have introduced his name and music to countless new fans while publications from The Source to Rolling Stone paid respect to his career.
